After the general theoretical test of the driving code, most candidates expect to receive their results within minutes. The process is different: the answers are sent to the Ministry of the Interior for electronic processing, and the result is returned to the candidate via email within a variable timeframe.

This timeframe, often announced as between 24 and 48 hours, can stretch or shorten depending on choices the candidate makes well before the exam day.

Independent candidate or driving school: a time gap often overlooked

The method of registration for the driving code exam directly influences the speed of receiving results. When a candidate registers as an independent candidate with an accredited operator (La Poste, SGS, Dekra, Objectif Code), the result is sent via email and through their online candidate space, usually within 24 hours.

When registration is done through a driving school, an intermediary is added to the chain. The establishment first receives the result, then transmits it to the candidate. This additional relay can extend the timeframe up to 72 hours depending on the chosen registration method.

To find out how to quickly obtain the results of the driving code, this parameter is the first lever to consider: removing the intermediary mechanically shortens the wait.

Accredited operators for the driving code exam: promises and reality of timeframes

The accredited operators do not all operate in the same way. La Poste explicitly promises on its exam center pages: results available 24 hours after the exam, with a maximum timeframe of 72 hours announced. The answers are sent to the ministry as soon as the session ends, and the processing is automated.

SGS, Dekra, and Objectif Code offer a comparable operation, with notification by email and consultation on a dedicated online space. However, field feedback diverges on this point: some candidates report receiving results in less than 12 hours, while others wait the full 48 hours without visible explanation.

Several factors can explain these variations:

  • The day and time of the exam: a session at the end of the day or a Friday afternoon may delay processing until the following Monday, as the ministry’s systems do not always operate in real-time over the weekend.
  • The volume of sessions processed simultaneously across the territory: peak periods (back to school, end of holidays) can create temporary congestion on the ministry’s side.
  • The candidate’s email configuration: results often land in spam or promotions folders, giving the impression of a delay when the email was indeed sent on time.

Check your driving code result on the ANTS website

Email is not the only channel. The website of the National Agency for Secure Titles (ANTS) allows you to consult your result online using the NEPH number (Harmonized Prefectural Registration Number). This number is assigned when applying for a driving license on the ANTS website, even before taking the test.

Without a NEPH number, no online consultation is possible. Candidates who neglect this prior administrative step find themselves dependent solely on the email from the operator or driving school.

Consulting on the ANTS presents an advantage: it does not depend on the communication pace of the operator or driving school. As soon as the ministry has processed the file, the result appears, sometimes even before the email is received.

Result not received after 48 hours: checks to make

When the result does not arrive within the expected timeframe, several checks are necessary before contacting the exam center.

  • Check the spam folder and the “Promotions” folder in your email. Automated emails from accredited operators are frequently filtered by public email services.
  • Log in to the candidate space of the operator (La Poste, SGS, Dekra, Objectif Code) with the credentials created during registration. The result may be available there even if the email has not been delivered.
  • Consult the ANTS website with your NEPH number. If the result appears there, the ministry’s processing is complete, and the delay comes from the notification channel.
  • Contact the exam center directly by phone. Operators have access to the results and can confirm a score even if the automatic notification has failed.

An absent result after 72 hours justifies contacting the exam center. Beyond this timeframe, the issue is rarely related to ministry processing and is more often due to an error in the email address entered during registration.

Validity of the result and next steps for the driving license process

Once a favorable result is obtained, the driving code remains valid for 5 years from the date of success. This timeframe allows for a comfortable margin to prepare for and take the practical driving test.

In the case of an unfavorable result, no limit on attempts is imposed. Each new attempt at the driving code exam costs 30 euros with accredited operators. The candidate can re-register as soon as the day after their failure if slots are available.

The email address provided during registration remains the main notification channel for subsequent attempts. Ensuring it is correct, active, and that the inbox is not full helps avoid repeating any potential delays during a new attempt.

The factor that weighs most on the speed of receipt is neither luck nor technology, but the administrative path chosen in advance. An independent candidate registered directly with an operator, with an active NEPH number and a reliable email address, meets the conditions to receive their result in the shortest possible timeframe.
